Tai Chi with Grace Franklin | Mindful Movement

Tai Chi with Grace

Internal martial arts are meditation in motion. A flowing stillness where awareness is not separate from the world, but fully embodied within it. Where the distinction between stillness and movement begins to dissolve.

Join us for a live tai chi class led by Grace Franklin, where we’ll enjoy gentle, easy-to-learn movement all drawn from the internal martial arts of tai chi.

In the class, our shared intention is simple: move to feel. We draw attention to the whole body—especially to the parts we often overlook. We move softly, giving ourselves time to notice the subtle details of our body and our surroundings. We don’t push full effort, but instead do a little less so that we can make room for curiosity.

Grace Franklin

Grace is a tai chi instructor who teaches mindfulness and meditation through the internal martial arts. Born in California, Grace set down roots in central Ohio after a nomadic childhood in an Air Force family. She worked for many years in public policy research after grad school, and made a mid-life shift to become a reference librarian (in that era librarians were the search engines, not Google, and AI was mere science fiction).

Grace encountered the Dharma in 2000, met Larry and Peggy in 2006, and has been with Lotus ever since. An early encounter with Tai Chi occurred when Larry demonstrated the Five Moving Forces at a 2007 retreat. Tai Chi and Qigong have been essential elements in her life ever since.

She practices the Yang Family style of Tai Chi (108 and 24) and many other shorter Tai Chi and Qigong routines. Her mentors include Master Chungliang Al Huang, Master Ming Tong Gu, Lee Holden, David Dorain-Ross, Mimi Kuo-Deemer, and many other esteemed instructors.

Grace nourishes herself daily with Mother Nature, meditation, cuddling with cats, tending gardens, cloud-watching, and savoring the beauty of the night sky.
